Sir Paul McCartney is gutting his New York apartment to remove all traces of ex-wife Heather Mills.

The Beatles legend - who reached a $48.6 million divorce settlement with Heather last month - was inspired to make a fresh start after enjoying a romantic Caribbean break with millionairess Nancy Shevell.

A source said: "The holiday with Nancy has done him the world of good and he wants to put the heartache behind him and move on. He's also planning a fresh start for his house in New York. First he's going to get rid of Heather's things."

"I don't know whether that means he is going to just dump them or if he will send them to her. Knowing Paul, he will return them to her with a polite note."

Paul has already hired a team of builders to renovate his New York property - which is situated near Central Park - and has been asking Nancy for her creative input.

The pal added to Britain's Daily Express newspaper: "He now plans to get the interior decor just so. He has also asked Nancy for her suggestions on any changes he should make."
