It was heating up to be one of the messiest divorces in celeb history, but Paul McCartney and his former wife Heather Mills have shown their maturity by putting their differences aside and coming to a settlement.

For Mills, the decision probably wasn't hard to make, considering she walked away with $66 million - making it $16.5 million for each year they were married - and millions more in London and U.S. property.

Sir Paul, who is reportedly worth over $1 billion, signed the deal which stops him from having to defend his name in a messy court battle.

But while Mills may be happy and McCartney relieved, his older children are allegedly fuming that he did not get to battle it out in court.

A source told Britain's News Of The World newspaper, "Their poor dad has been dragged through the mire by this woman, and all they wanted was to see his name cleared on the record, in public. Stella used to joke about looking forward to the day when Heather didn't even have one leg to stand on in court. But now that day will never come."

The couple have one child together, a daughter, Beatrice.
