Either boredom or sensitivity has gripped Paris Hilton as she sits in a jail cell.

Now that the starlet can't fill her days with BlackBerry calls, shopping and posing for paparazzi, she has been soul searching in prison and reaching out to fans.

Paris, who is behind bars for a DUI probation violation, has responded to a fan wishing her luck as she spends her days with criminals.

E! Online obtained a copy of the neatly written letter, signed by the world's most famous socialite herself.

Paris wrote to the fan, "I read your letter and just wanted to thank you for your kind words of love and support. The fact that you took time out of your day to write me truly means the world. Especially at such a difficult and scary time in my life. But I am being strong and trying to make the best out of the situation. And the letters I'm receiving really do put a smile on my face as I sit here in my cell, sad and alone."

The star's rep, Elliot Mintz, says that the letter is authentic. He confirmed, "She has been trying to respond to her fans as they write, personally."

With all her free time, and millions of young fans, Paris will have plenty have time to pen more notes before her expected release on June 26.

Paris is soul searching? That would require a soul to begin with. Her life is a big PR campaign. No sould required.
