Many jokes have been told about Paris Hilton going to jail, but in reality the star's health could possibly be at risk.
Like the other inmates at Century Regional Detention Facility, Hollywood star Paris could contract staphylococcus bacteria, a staph infection that causes inflammation.
Over 400 current inmates have been diagnosed with the bacteria, which is highly contagious. The prison's epidemiologist, Elizabeth Bancroft, says that contracting the bacteria is a possibility - however "The Simple Life" star has the benefit of solitary confinement.
She told "Inside Edition," "MRSA is a kind of staph infection that means it's resistant to the first line of antibiotics we usually use to treat staph infection. That is the kind that is so prevalent right now or so common in the jail."
After just a couple of days behind bars, the socialite is reportedly already struggling. Her psychiatrist, Charles Sophy, rushed to the jail to talk to Paris.
However, through honoring patient-doctor confidentiality, Dr. Sophy refused to comment on the starlet's emotional state. He said, "I don't discuss my patients."
Paris' lawyer, Richard Hutton, added, "Everything's fine."
Paris will serve a maximum 23 days in jail for violating her probation stemming from a DUI in 2006.
