P. Diddy has made friends with the man he is accused of punching at a New York party. The 37-year-old music mogul was seen amicably chatting with Steven Acevedo - who told police Diddy hit him twice in the face in the early hours of Saturday - at New York's Butter nightclub on Monday.
With the pair's relationship seemingly repaired, Diddy failed to surrender himself to police on Wednesday to face a misdemeanor charge of third-degree assault.
Diddy's lawyer Benjamin Brafman is optimistic the charges will be dropped and the matter will not result in criminal proceedings.
Brafman said: "We are hopeful that this matter will be resolved without the filing of any criminal charges as this was a disagreement among acquaintances, not a criminal assault."
Police sources say it is unlikely authorities will file charges if Acevedo, 31, decides to retract his statement.
Acevedo initially told police he and Diddy got into an argument over a woman while partying at Kiosk - a high-end store that hosts exclusive parties at night.
He claims tempers flared and the rapper launched himself at him throwing a "one-two combo" while screaming, "I'll kill you, punk!"
