Owen Wilson has been allowed to go home just a week after he was hospitalized after an attempted suicide bid.

The 'Wedding Crashers' star, who tried to take his own life by slitting his wrists on August 26, returned to his Santa Monica home on Saturday but is being constantly watched to make sure he doesn't try to kill himself again.

A close source told People magazine: "Owen is in bad mental shape but has said he is thankful to be alive. He knows he came close to ending his life, and he is happy that he was saved from himself. He is basically at home with people watching him 24/7."

Owen, 38, was found after his failed suicide bid by his actor brother Luke who immediately called the emergency services.

Early reports suggested Owen had been high on a cocktail of drugs, including crystal meth, at the time of the incident, but these claims were later refuted by the star's lawyer.

While at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, the comic actor was visited by Luke, his other brother Andrew, his parents and a number of close friends, including Woody Harrelson and director Wes Anderson.

Owen has now pulled out of his next project 'Tropic Thunder', in which he would have starred with his long-time friend and movie collaborator Ben Stiller, to recuperate.

I've been reading on the net that Owen's alleged suicide was a publicity stunt to hype his new movie Darjeerling, where he plays a distraught, suicidal character.
