Oprah Winfrey's trip to actor Tom Cruise's house aired Friday, as the first part of the talk-show host's two-day interview with Cruise. On Monday, Tom will meet Oprah, and lots of special guests, in her studio to celebrate his 25 years in show business.
Oprah began the interview by driving through the snow covered hills to the home Tom shares with wife Katie Holmes, and his children, in Telluride. As Oprah's car pulled up to the house, Tom and Katie came out to welcome Oprah who was astounded at the beauty of the scenery.
Tom gave Oprah a tour of his home, with Oprah stopping in front of Tom's collection of leather bound scripts from all his movies. He opened the script for "Risky Business" and they read the description of the "dancing across the floor in the underwear" scene. Tom laughed as he told Oprah that he first tried to slide across the floor in his bare feet, but of course his feet kept sticking and he couldn't slide.
At the tender age of 19, the star found some wax and proceeded to wax the floor where he needed to slide into the view of the camera. Then, wearing white socks, he slid across the floor... and into history as one of the most bankable movie stars of all time.
After the tour, the two settled down on the couch for the interview where Oprah told Tom it was the first time she had been able to have a serious talk with the actor since the famous day three years ago when Tom jumped on her couches and declared his love for Katie.
Their talk ranged from how the media spins everything out of control, to the birth of Suri, to his description of a friend (someone who is loyal), to his relationship with his ex-wife Nicole Kidman. (Easy, he said.)
They ended the interview with Oprah clinging to the back of Tom as he whisked her across the snow on a snowmobile. He took her to his favorite spot on the property, overlooking snow covered fields. Oprah, once again overcome by the beauty of the surroundings, told Tom she wished for him all the peace that was present right there on the mountain.
