To be labeled the most foolish American of the past 12 months, you really need to have engaged in some questionable behavior.
Foolish things like flashing your girlie-bits to the entire world, marrying and having children with an unemployed dancer, partying with Paris Hilton and shaving your own head are likely to get you on the unattractive list.
Luckily there is only one person in the country who has done all of this - and more - and therefore been awarded the top prize of the most foolish person in the U.S.A.
Britney Spears, who just three years ago was a sweet and innocent Southern girl with millions of fans, dollars and prospects, is now struggling to make a comeback in between juggling single motherhood and partying.
The fallen pop star has been given the title by publicist Jeff Barge and the Opinion Research Corporation and beat out some fierce competition from jail bird Paris Hilton, Michael Jackson, O.J. Simpson and President George W. Bush.
But Britney won fair and square, according to Jeff. He said, "Going commando, mutilating your own head, bobbling your baby in public - they've all been done before by various contenders but never in combination."
However, Britney may be able to redeem herself with the help of some other artists. Rhythm and Blues star Ne-Yo is currently writing some songs for her new album and says he is trying to make the best music possible without singing the blues.
He told MTV News, "My whole thing is to stay away from the drama [Britney and K-Fed's] been through. Because you got to know that every song that's being submitted... has something to do with Kevin. Everybody is on that. And I think maybe one or two songs addressing that is needed, 'cause people definitely want to hear (her) take on it. But not a whole album of that. Nobody wants to continue to hear: 'I been through the rain and I'm still strong and I'm still here.' So my contribution is just regular songs. Regular, quality songs, that's what I'm trying to do."
Meanwhile, Britney has continued recording and practicing her dance moves.
