When most people get bored, they watch a movie or start a new hobby. For Nicole Richie, it was drugs that cured her boredom for a while.
The mother-to-be grew up as the daughter of an international pop star, Lionel Richie, and could have everything her heart desired. However, after getting everything she wanted, Nicole needed a new fix and turned to heroine.
The socialite told Diane Sawyer, "I got so much so fast that nothing really excited me anymore. I kind of took matters into my own hands and was creating drama in a very dangerous way."
Nicole revealed that her problems started in her late teens. She said, "I think I was just bored, and I had seen everything - especially when you're young, you just want more. At 18 I had just been doing a lot of cocaine."
But as her profile was about to rise, thanks to the first season of "The Simple Life", Nicole got her life in order. She said, "I, again, made the decision for myself, this is something I have to do. I have to get off drugs. This isn't the life...this was heroin. It's been four years [since I've touched heroin] and almost nine years [since touching cocaine]."
Problems have still plagued Nicole, however. She lost an alarming amount of weight in a very small amount of time and has been the subject of countless eating disorder rumors. She was then arrested for her second DUI in late 2006. She will serve four days in jail for driving under the influence of marijuana and vicodin.
Nicole is pregnant with Good Charlotte singer Joel Madden. Their baby is due in January 2008.
