Nicole Richie is famous for doing nothing, being skinny and driving the wrong way down a highway. But that wasn't her initial intention.

The reality TV starlet and BFF of Paris Hilton had plans to wow the world with performing long before she became a household name for her fashion sense.

She told Harper's Bazaar, "My plan was not to be a celebrity. My plan was to be a singer and an entertainer. I wanted to go to NYU, major in musical theater, do Broadway, and come out with an album. Unfortunately, I started f**king up when I was in my teens."

Nicole, the adopted daughter of '80s pop singer Lionel Richie, was a drug addict and rehab patient back when Lindsay Lohan was still in high school.

Now that Nicole has built a career out of her personal life, diet - or lack of - and fashion sense, she has embraced it. The star will soon have a new season of "The Simple Life" with Paris air on TV. But the girlfriend of Joel Madden insists that she is capable of doing many things herself, including getting dressed for events.

Nicole said, "There's definitely an idea that Rachel [Zoe] styled me and she dressed me every day, like I was her Barbie. That's not the case. She dressed me for events."

Before designer-to-the-stars Rachel Zoe, Nicole was simply Paris' sidekick.
