The MTV Video Music Awards is always shocking and full of surprises - and this year it proved to be no less. At the televised live event Thursday night, a gatecrasher stole the show with his bizarre antics on stage.
The awards ceremony- which took place at New York's Radio City Music Hall - took an unexpected turn when Panic at the Disco! walked on stage to collect their trophy for Video of the Year. A member of the audience jumped on stage, grabbed the microphone from one of the band members and tried to grab the award out of the hands of its presenter, Jennifer Lopez. The intruder - who called himself 'Six' - griped to the crowd, "MTV never gave me my own show."
Once security had carted the man off stage, a flustered J. Lo tried to reassure the audience saying, "That was all planned."
Other highlights included 'King Kong' actor Jack Black - who hosted the show - performing a skit dressed as the famous MTV 'Moon Man' and former jail bird rapper Lil' Kim presenting an award wearing an orange prison-issue jumpsuit and accompanied by men dressed as guards.
The most cringe-worthy moment of the evening was provided by Britney Spears and husband Kevin Federline - in a videotaped segment - where the couple announced the Best R&B Video winner.
During the piece, Kevin asked Britney where his cigarettes were, to which she responded, "If they were up you're a** you'd know" before pretending to have lost their 11-month-old son, Sean Preston.
