The original celebrity humanitarian, Mia Farrow, has taken a big leap in displaying her belief in human rights.

The actress and UNICEF ambassador, who was once married to Frank Sinatra and raised children with Woody Allen, has reportedly written to the president of Sudan offering herself to be imprisoned.

Mia has told President Omar Hassan al-Bashir that she will give up her own freedom on the condition that Sudanese rebel, Suleiman Jamous, is freed. Suleiman is a co-ordinator for the Sudanese Liberation Army who was arrested over a year ago.

Suleiman is in desperate need of medical attention to undergo a stomach biopsy. However, he is unable to leave the UN peacekeeping base near Darfur because of threats of immediate arrest.

Mia, 62, wrote to President Hassan al-Bashir, saying, "Before his seizure, Mr Jamous played a crucial role in bringing the SLA to the negotiating table and in seeking reconciliation between its divided rival factions."

"I am therefore offering to take Mr Jamous's place, to exchange my freedom for his in the knowledge of his importance to the civilians of Darfur and in the conviction that he will apply his energies toward creating the just and lasting peace."

Mia Farrow, like Angelina Jolie, has traveled the world raising awareness on human rights violations. She has also adopted children from Third World countries.
