Using an anonymous donor from a sperm bank, Tammy Lynn Michaels, long time partner of rock star Melissa Etheridge, gave birth to twins, the couple announced proudly on Friday. Michaels gave birth to a son, Miller Steven, and a daughter, Johnnie Rose, on Tuesday.
"Tammy and the babies are in excellent health," Etheridge stated in a web-blog.
"The creation of life brings about immeasurable love, and pours hope into the future. The joy will help carry us through our upcoming sleepless nights," said the couple in a statement to the media.
Etheridge and Michaels held a commitment ceremony in 2003.
Etheridge is no stranger to parenting. She has two children with her former partner, Julie Cypher, who was artificially inseminated using sperm by rock legend David Crosby.
Michaels is a noted actress. She starred on 2005 NBC comedy "committed," and has made numerous television appearances.
The Grammy-winning legend and her partner will have their hands full with the twins.
Etheridge, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004, is now cancer free. Her last album, "The Road Less Traveled," is a collection of greatest hits.
