Melanie Brown is doing what many stars before her have had to do - take her ex to court for paternity tests.

Despite Eddie Murphy claiming that he wouldn't admit to fathering the ex-Spice Girls' baby until a DNA test was done, the comedian has refused to go through with the tests. The only option left for Mel, it seems, is court. And she is preparing for the battle.

The British singer told PEOPLE, "He's not doing a DNA test, and he's not signing the birth certificate. So, it's going to have to go to court, so he can be forced to do it, which is strange since he was the one asking for it."

The baby, Angel Iris, was coincidently born on her alleged father's own birthday, April 3.

Mel and Eddie, who began dating after he split from his wife, ended their relationship in the very early stages of her pregnancy.

Mel continued to "Extra," "I don't know what happened, and I still don't know what happened. We had a few little disagreements and things that we were working through, but I didn't think for one second it was completely over... My main thing now is I want him to be a responsible parent."

Despite Eddie publicly humiliating her, the singer still calls her ex "a great guy" and is only asking for him to be responsible.

She said, "He hasn't seen his daughter. My people have contacted his people, and they just had no response to anything. She can't speak, she can't defend herself... So now I've got a situation where I have to go through lawyers, and I think it's really sad."

Mel has a daughter from a previous relationship, Phoenix Chi.
