Music mogul and former rapper Master P has been given a key to the city of Memphis, as recognition for his philanthropic efforts and works in the community on Saturday.

Real name Percy Miller, the CEO and founder of P. Miller Enterprises was honored by Mayor Willie Herenton during the inaugural of Let The Kids Grow Day at the Mud Island Amphitheater.

The Mayor said in a statement, "No other rapper or entertainer is as committed to the community as Master P and I am proud of him. Master P changed his life and took the negativity out of his music but stayed true to the hood."

Miller and rapper son Romeo have taken part in the program. They were also active in the community's other functions such as The Children's Earth Day Festival and Food on Foot New Orleans.

Miller says, "My mission is to give inner city kids a jump on education and the best possible start. I want those kids and my own kids to be better than me. I've been luckier than most to have a second chance at life. We train our kids to be good athletes, why can't we train our kids to be good students?"
