Madonna has started eating porridge in a bid to put on weight.

The 49-year-old singer - who usually follows a strict macrobiotic diet - has decided to pile on a few pounds to please husband Guy Ritchie. The Material Girl was worried she had become too thin and gaunt.

Madonna took advice from Sting's wife Trudi Styler, who suggested eating a filling breakfast could help improve her skin and take 10 years off her appearance.

A source said: "Guy prefers his wife when she looks girly and feminine. He's not a fan of her more aggressive, super-toned and muscular look, which is why she has softened her image.

"She used to start the day with a miso soup and a fruit smoothie but found porridge improved her skin and keeps her full for longer. She eats it after her daily exercise regime. But she has also been cutting back on the gym and weights, in favour of Pilates, which is why her arms look less sinewy."

Earlier this week, Madonna sparked facelift rumours after she was spotted leaving a medical centre with two black eyes.

The 'Material Girl' singer masked her eyes with oversized black sunglasses as she left the New York building but the dark purple bruising was still visible.Cosmetic operations on the eyes or nose can leave the patient with bruises. However, Madonna has always denied going under the knife.
