Madonna's alleged affair with New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez was "an affair of the heart," says his wife's lawyer.

Amidst the pop superstar's rumored divorce with director husband Guy Ritchie, the Yankee slugger's own marriage has started to crumble apart, with reports that Madonna has something to do with it.

Although Madonna has already denied the affair, Cynthia Rodriguez still thinks her husband's relationship with the singer "was the last straw."

Her attorney, Earle Lilly, tells People magazine that Alex likes Madonna, although nothing can be construed as sexual.

He says, "The correct analysis is a relationship. Some people categorize an affair as something as sexual infidelity. We're not claiming that. It's an affair of the heart."

Lilly continues, "Madonna's name is not even mentioned in the papers. We don't want the public to think this is an aggressive action against Madonna."

Cynthia's Miami attorney has filed for divorce for his client. The document states that Alex "has emotionally abandoned his wife and children and has left her with no choice but to divorce him."

The petition also says that their marriage is "irretrievably broken because of the husband's extramarital affair and other marital conduct," although it does not name the third party behind the divorce.
