Kate Hudson has revealed her home is a "hang-out" for her closest friends.

The "How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days" actress - who has a four-year-old son Ryder from her failed marriage to rocker Chris Robinson - has an open house policy so Ryder understands there will always be different people in his life.

America's Vogue magazine wrote, "There is a 'hang-out' house policy at Kate's Hollywood home. She loves having people over. That way, Ryder is also less fazed if she has the occasional boyfriend over. Although she is always careful not to show affection for a guy in front of her son until she is very sure about the relationship."

Kate recently revealed how having Ryder caused her and Chris - whose divorce was finalised in October 2007 - drift apart.

She said, "We had Ryder, and we both sort of looked at each other and went, 'Something's off.'"

Despite the split, Kate insists she and Chris are still very close.

She said, "Divorce was the most difficult thing I've ever done in my life. The process of discovering that you no longer love somebody you once did is so painful. Thank goodness I went through it with Chris. We helped each other through it."
