"Underworld" star Kate Beckinsale is grateful to her native England for keeping the memory of her late actor father alive.

Richard Beckinsale, who died at the age of 31 from a heart attack, was best known for his role as Lennie Godber in the BBC sitcom "Porridge" and as Alan Moore in "Rising Damp." Daughter Kate was just five years old when he passed away.

Kate, 34, claims she's thankful the British people keep his dad's memory alive since she has little recollection of him.

She has been quoted to say by contactmusic.com, "I do have memories, but when you're that young, you're not really at the conversational stage of a relationship."

The actress also says that she used to mistake Beatles legend John Lennon with her dad.

"He's still such a huge figure in England, which I find moving and impressive all these years later, but at the time, I used to get him confused with both God and John Lennon because John Lennon died a couple of years later, and I remember getting the whole thing a bit mixed up."
