Grammy-winning artist Kanye West's mother, Donda, died on Saturday of complications following a plastic surgery procedure, it has been confirmed.
According to reports, a spokesperson for the family has released a statement saying: "The family respectfully asks for privacy during this time of grief."
West became known to the public by being the rapper's main accessory on the red carpet as he took her to several events. Recently, she had her own spotlight as she appeared on "Oprah" and "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" as she promoted her book, "Raising Kanye: Life Lessons from the Mother of a Hip-Hop Star."
After retiring from a 30-year career as an English Professor at Chicago State University, West later started to manage her son's career by 2004. Amidst all the controversy surrounding her son, she continued to support and defended him against his issues with the media.
