He may play eccentrics in films but in real life, Johnny Depp plays an action hero. The multi-award winning star saved a group of extras from being hit by a car at the set of his latest movie "Public Enemies."

The 44-year-old Depp was shooting a scene in the crime drama film when a stuntman driving a 1933 Ford car sped onto a patch of ice and spun out towards six extras. The minor actors had their backs turned, thus, they were oblivious to the danger that was approaching them.

That was when the actor leaped into the scene and scooped the extras away from the car's way.

A witness tells News Of The World, "Johnny slammed into the group with arms outspread, shoving them all back."
