John Travolta took his daughter and 26 of her friends to watch 'The Little Mermaid'.

The Hollywood star treated his eight-year-old daughter Ella and her gaggle of pals to a day out to see a stage version of the hit Disney film at Manhattan's Lunt-Fontanne Theater on Saturday.

Travolta also surprised Ella - who turned eight on April 3 - by arranging for her to meet the cast backstage.

A source told the New York Post newspaper: "They were sitting in the front row and he was singing along to all the tunes like 'Under the Sea'. Afterwards he brought Ella and all her pals backstage and took pictures with the cast."

"He was touching all the costumes, he looked amazed. He said he was way, way into the show. He stayed backstage for a while."

A representative for Travolta confirmed: "His daughter loves the show so he knows it well."

Travolta, 54, has been married to actress Kelly Preston since 1991. The couple have two children - Ella and 16-year-old son Jett.
