After a rocky start, Joe Francis has settled into prison life quite nicely. So much so that he is staying behind bars voluntarily.
Well, not exactly, but the a la porn entrepreneur has opted to stay in a Reno jail rather than be released on $1.5 million bail. A Florida judge has now revoked the bail, meaning that Joe must stay in prison until the end of July or be taken into custody by Nevada authorities.
Joe's seemingly endless legal woes include claims of sexual acts with a minor and tax fraud. By staying in jail, the sex charges are put aside for the time being.
However, authorities have made it clear that Joe's freedom is not a simple matter. A spokesperson for the U.S Attorney's Office, Natalie Collins, told E! News that the situation in Florida makes Joe's bail void.
She said, "It appears like the defense is making it sound like he has a choice to bond out or not, but the magistrate judge said he would not be able to post the $1.5 million cash bail unless he got his bond matter straightened out down in Florida."
The "Girls Gone Wild" creator's lawyer, David Houston, told TMZ that Joe has mixed feelings about spending most of his summer in a cell. He said that he is both "elated" and "disappointed" about the current events.
Joe's prison experience appears to be much more successful than Paris Hilton's. The filmmaker's former girlfriend is also watching the minutes pass in a jail cell, in Los Angeles. Being a celebrity, Joe has also been allowed special privileges, such as making phone calls.
Joe has reportedly also settled in with fellow inmates. Maybe it was his career making raunchy DVDs that was the icebreaker...
