Matt Damon won another magazine crown as one of Entertainment Weekly's veterans. "The Bourne Ultimatum" star was recently named People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive.
EW credited Damon's involvement with the "Bourne" franchise for his appearance on the list. The magazine wrote, "They wouldn't work without a leading man who could convey all of these things...often without words."
"Damon says more with his haunted and hunted face in 'Ultimatum' than most actors could with a dozen monologues. That's why he's not only the thinking man's action hero but also the best thing to happen to summer since Kool-Aid."
Johnny Depp, Katherine Heigl, Carrie Underwood, Kayne West and Zac Efron were among Hollywood's Most Popular stars. Heigl had a big 2007 with the smash hit "Knocked Up" and the increasingly popular "Grey's Anatomy". Efron, meanwhile, became a mainstream star with "High School Musical 2".
Of almost-veteran Depp, EW commended his role of Captain Jack Sparrow in "Pirates Of The Caribbean" for his popularity. EW said, "Hollywood enthusiastically surrendered, handing him the lead role in Tim Burton's big-screen musical adaptation of Sweeney Todd without hearing him sing a note. Risky, dark, kooky: music to our ears."
Singer stars Rihanna and Miley Cirus and "Indiana Jones" actor Shia Labeouf were named 2007's Prodigies. Troubled British singer Amy "Rehab" Winehouse is the years Most Buzzed About star.
The title of Entertainer Of The Year was given to J.K Rowling. Why? "J.K. Rowling is our Entertainer of the Year because she did something very, very hard, and she did it very, very well, thus pleasing hundreds of millions of children and adults very, very much. In an era of videogame consoles, online multiplayer ''environments,'' and tinier-is-better mobisodes, minisodes, and webisodes, she got people to tote around her big, fat old-fashioned printed-on-paper books as if they were the hottest new entertainment devices on the planet."
