Jay-Z mocked Noel Gallagher during his Glastonbury performance on Saturday night.

The rapper hit back at the British rocker's claims that hip-hop wasn't right for the festival by opening with a cover of Oasis' 'Wonderwall'. Before the cover, Noel's scathing comments were broadcast on a huge video screen.

After 'Wonderwall', Jay-Z blew away the huge audience with a blistering performance which included his hit '99 Problems' and a rendition of Amy Winehouse's 'Rehab.'

He told the crowd: "For those that didn't get the memo my name is Jay-Z and I'm pretty f***ing awesome."

Towards the end of his performance, the star - whose wife Beyonce Knowles watched from the side of the stage - asked the crowd what they thought of his appearance.

He said: "So, I hear you guys didn't want me here tonight?"

"They said you weren't into hip-hop. One question Glastonbury, 'Where is the love?'"

Noel, who headlined the world-famous festival in 1995 and 2004 with Oasis, originally said when quizzed about Jay-Z's slot on the Pyramid Stage: "I'm sorry, but Jay-Z? No chance. Glastonbury has the tradition of guitar music. I'm not having hip-hop at Glastonbury. It's wrong."
