For once, the spotlight isn't on Britney Spears. Her 16-year-old sister Jamie Lynn is pregnant, Nickelodeon confirms Tuesday.
OK! magazine reports that the Zoey 101 star has confirmed the pregnancy rumors and tells the magazine she is "shocked." The rumored father is boyfriend Casey Aldridge, a guy she met in church.
"It was a shock for both of us, so unexpected," Spears says. "I was in complete and total shock and so was he."
The Louisiana native still calls the state her home. She admits she is already 12 weeks pregnant but didn't break the news to her mom until before Thanksgiving.
"As soon as I found out for sure from the doctor, I took two weeks to myself where I didn't tell anybody. Only one of my friends knew because I needed to work out what I would do for myself before I let anyone's opinion affect my decision. Then I told my parents and friends. I was scared, but I had to do what was right for me."
Spears says her mom, Lynne, was very disappointed because it wasn't what she expected at all but she was very supportive a week after she had time to cope with it.
Nickelodeon has in confirmation, released a statement that reads, "We respect Jamie Lynn's decision to take responsibility in this sensitive and personal situation. We know this is a very difficult time for her and her family, and our primary concern right now is for Jamie Lynn's well being."
The channel carries her teen series Zoey 101 for their teen nick time slot. Spears had won a Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Award last year for best female TV star and best TV female actress. She had been a cast member for two seasons in another Nickelodeon show, All That. She is the youngest of the Spears family.
