"KISS" rock star Gene Simmons called a wounded Israeli soldier in Lebanon a "hero" after his courageous ongoing battle in the Middle East. The rock star sent the man a video of well-wishes, thanking him and sending a special message in his native Hebrew.
According to Reuters, the wounded soldier, Ron Weinrech, a tank crewman, was paralyzed from below the chest two weeks ago, in a fight against Hezbollah guerrillas. He has been hospitalized and undergoing treatment near Tel Aviv.
In a video which was broadcast on Israel's Channel 2, the rocker said, "I can't tell you how proud I am of you and how much the world and Israel owe you a debt of gratitude."
According to Channel 2, Ron is said to be a big fan of "KISS." Gene made the video at the request of a fund-raising group-Israel's Soldiers' Welfare Association.
"From the bottom of my heart, you're a real hero, you're everybody's hero, you're my hero," said Gene in the video before adding in Hebrew, "My name is Haim. I was born in Haifa."
Gene was born Haim Witz in 1949 in a northern Israeli city. He arrived in the United States at the age of 8 with his mother, who is a survivor of a Nazi concentration camp.
