Pete Doherty could be trying to turn his life around at a crucial moment.
The junkie rocker, famous for his constant dependence on hard drugs and dramatic love affair with supermodel Kate Moss rather than his music career, has been praised in a Thames Magistrate courtroom.
However, after years of disobeying the law and ignoring judge's orders, the standards for Pete's praise have been somewhat lowered.
By sticking to one of his court dates, the judge was so impressed that he told Pete, "The fact you've turned up shows co-operation - more than co-operation - and there is no risk of you breaching this order."
But the star does seem intent on changing his image, insisting that he is currently clean from drugs. He told the court, "I'm quite keen to show a negative test as soon as possible."
While Pete tries to clean up his act, his bank balance could reportedly use some attention. Reports have suggested that the troubled star has lost over $27,000 in failed business ventures.
A source told The Mirror newspaper in England, "His accounts don't make pretty reading. He is absolutely hopeless with money and just does what he wants, regardless of whether it is a worthwhile project. He has signed a new record deal with Baby Shambles and is said to have a big advance, but it will be interesting to see where that money is this time next year."
The Baby Shambles debut album sold an impressive 100,000 copies, but with Pete's addiction to expensive drugs, his income may not have been stretched too far. And as Pete starts to turn a corner, his fiancee is getting some bad press of her own.
New York magazine has slammed the grungy model, telling her to grow up.
A recent article says, "We've grown impatient with the lack of remorse on Moss' part, as well as her insistence on continuing to rub shoulders with her greasy, pasty, substance-bloated musician boyfriend Pete Doherty. For God's sake, Kate, you're a mother. Grow up, preferably before your daughter."
The couple, who recently became engaged, has been enjoying some quiet down time at Kate's country estate.
