Time heals wounds. That's what the late legendary musician Ike Turner's widow, Jeanette, hopes when she asks Tina Turner to forgive her husband.

Ike died, reportedly in his sleep, on December 12. Tina, his former wife, had not been in contact with him for years due to his constant physical abuse she received when they were still together. She had released an official statement that reads, "Tina hasn't had any contact with Ike for more than 35 years. No further comment will be made."

Jeanette pleads on her husband' behalf saying, "I know that she was hurt. But there's something called forgiveness and I know Ike really forgave himself, which is really hard to do."

The newly widowed Mrs. Turner is one of Ike's former Ikette, his trio of background singers and dancer, whom he married in 1995. Prior to that and post his marriage to Tina, he was married to another Ikette, Ann Thomas.

"I'm not defending what he did. I'm not saying he didn't do what he did when he was with Tina or me. But he was a human being. And being all of that, he's still a childlike person - pure and a good person always willing to help people.

"He was a human being and he helped Tina... he helped a lot of people," Jeanette says.
