Hugh Laurie has bought a $4 million Los Angeles mansion.

The 'House' actor - who has made no secret of his homesickness as he filmed the hit TV drama while his family remain in England this summer - has now purchased a 3,242 sq ft English country house in the exclusive Hollywood Hills area.

The property, described as a "magical garden paradise", comes complete with a swimming pool, a gym and a guest house.

The 49-year-old actor has so far been living in a rented apartment while shooting the show in Los Angeles, but was keen to find somewhere more permanent that his wife Jo and three children can stay in when they visit.

Hugh is reportedly getting increasingly disgruntled with his living situation, as he hasn't been back to the UK since March. A source told Britain's MailOnline: "Hugh would have loved to spend some of this summer with his kids, but his contract just won't let him. He was locked into shooting this summer and couldn't get out of it."

"Hugh's got England so deeply in his blood, spending time in Los Angeles when he's used to being with his family is hell for him"

"The problem is, the more time he spends alone and away from his family, the grumpier and grouchier he gets."

"It helps the show and the character, but it makes him tough to work alongside. He's basically turned into a recluse."
