Actor Mel Ferrer, star of the epic period dramas "War and Peace" and "The Sun Also Rises," has died of failing health Monday at his Carpinteria home. He was 90.
The actor and Hollywood icon Audrey Hepburn's first husband was already in failing health for about six months, son Mark Ferrer said.
Ferrer is best known for playing literary roles in the likes of King Arthur in "Knights of the Round Table," Prince Andrei Bolkonsky in "War and Peace," Robert Cohn in "The Sun Also Rises," and Marquis de Maynes in "Scaramouche."
He walked the aisle five times, most famously to his fourth wife Hepburn. They had one son together, Sean.
He is survived by his fifth wife, Elizabeth Soukhotine, their five children, and their grandchildren.
