Heather Mills bizarrely wore a black wig and sunglasses at a New York airport Thursday.

The blonde former model fled the U.S. city in disguise just hours after her ex-husband Sir Paul McCartney and his new brunette love Nancy Shevell arrived. Heather was flying to Los Angeles, before she goes to Las Vegas to act as a judge in the Miss USA contest next week.

She will sit on a panel which also includes comic actor Rob Schneider, former *NSYNC singer Joey Fatone and actress Kristian Alfonso.

Heather is hoping the high-profile event will help boost her image in the U.S. The 40-year-old vegan was slammed as "underhand" and "warped" by the judge who ruled on her divorce settlement from Paul.

Paul, 65, and Nancy, 47 - who have returned from a luxury break on a private Caribbean resort - looked tanned and relaxed as they enjoyed a romantic dinner in New York together.

The pair later checked into a $6,000-a-night two bedroom suite at the exclusive Carlyle Hotel - less than two miles from where Heather had been staying.

Paul will return to the U.K. to look after his four-year-old daughter Beatrice while Heather is away.
