Daniel Radcliffe has spent $4.2 million on a New York penthouse.

The "Harry Potter" star's luxury new apartment is located on the fifth floor of a 13 storey block in Manhattan's exclusive SoHo district.

Radcliffe plans to rent the property out for $20,000 per month until he moves in just before the Broadway run of Peter Schaffer's hit play "Equus" - in which Radcliffe strips off nude - starts in September 2008.

Designed by architect Jean Nouvel, the two-bedroom property, which boasts floor-to-ceiling windows and multiple bathrooms, is one of the "sexiest new developments" in the area, according to the actor's letting agent Chris Pomeroy.

Radcliffe, who has an estimated fortune of $46 million, will also have access to a 50ft swimming pool, sauna and steam room and "hotel-like" services when he becomes a resident.

After getting his hands on his fortune on his 18th birthday last July, Daniel claimed he didn't "have any plans to buy anything extravagant", adding, "The things I like buying are things that cost about $10 - books, CDs and DVDs."
