The star of the hit television series, Grey's Anatomy is engaged. A rep confirmed Ellen Pompeo's engagement to her boyfriend of nearly three years, Chris Ivery.
The proposal was made on the actress' birthday with a 3.5-carat emerald-cut diamond and platinum ring by Tacori.
Pompeo, 37, is the actress that plays the character Meredith Grey on the ABC medical dramedy Grey's Anatomy. She has also appeared in Old School and Moonlight Mile. Ivery, 38, works as a music producer.
The couple had stumbled into each other in an L.A. grocery store. Pompeo had agreed to a date with Ivery when they saw each other again six months later.
They discovered that they grew up only 10 miles from each other.
"I had to go 3,000 miles away to meet a guy who practically grew up next door," Pompeo told the Boston Herald last year. "But I guess everything comes full circle."
There is no date yet for the wedding although Pompeo tells Us Weekly, "My boyfriend and I travel to Italy quite often and I think that's always the most romantic for us. We went to Bologna and he has family there and I think that's our favorite place."
