George Michael has been fined $260,000 after his Wembley Stadium concert over-ran by just 13 minutes.

The 'Careless Whisper' singer, who was the first artist to play at the newly refurbished London super-venue on June 9, enjoyed himself so much he continued past his allotted time limit and now faces a huge financial penalty.

A source said: "Wembley has strict rules that concerts must finish at an agreed time or the acts face a $20,000 fine for each minute they continue."

"George slipped two extra songs into his set and racked up a huge bill. He was enjoying himself so much he didn't care."

Michael played several memorable shows at the old Wembley Stadium, which was demolished in 2002. He performed at Live Aid in 1985 and stole the show at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert in 1992.

It was also the venue for the final Wham! show, 'The Finale', which took place in 1986.

The day before his latest Wembley show, Michael was banned from driving for two years and given 100 hours community service.

The 44-year-old singer, who was found slumped over the wheel of his Mercedes at a set of traffic lights on a busy London road last October, was sentenced for being unfit for driving through tiredness and taking prescription drugs.
