Giada De Laurentiis, star of Food Network's "Everyday Italian," announced that she and husband Todd Thompson are expecting their first child together.
De Laurentiis, 37, is also a regular contributor on NBC's "Today" show where she shows that there is more to Italian cuisine than just pizza and pasta.
De Laurentiis and Thompson, a clothing designer for the Anthropologie fashion company, met in 1991 and married in 2003.
"When I found out I was pregnant I was in complete shock," De Laurentiis said. "I truly didn't believe it. I honestly thought, 'there has got to be a mistake.'"
Although the couple might not have been expecting the pregnancy they both are looking forward to the months ahead and De Laurentiis commented that when she could make out fingers and toes on the sonogram it "brought tears to my eyes."
The slender celebrity chef admits she is craving a lot of starches these days and might have to shift her culinary expertise into making baby food, as the baby is due in early April.
"I just hope that I can be a good mom," De Laurentiis said.
