The MTV Video Music Awards is always shocking and full of surprises - and this year it proved to be no less. At the televised live event Thursday night, a gatecrasher stole the show with his bizarre antics on stage.

The awards ceremony- which took place at New York's Radio City Music Hall - took an unexpected turn when Panic at the Disco! walked on stage to collect their trophy for Video of the Year. A member of the audience jumped on stage, grabbed the microphone from one of the band members and tried to grab the award out of the hands of its presenter, Jennifer Lopez. The intruder - who called himself 'Six' - griped to the crowd, "MTV never gave me my own show."

Shakira and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are set to storm this year's MTV Music Video Awards after receiving seven nominations each. The nominations for the ceremony were announced July 31 by Beyonce Knowles, as MTV celebrated its 25th anniversary.

Shakira and the Chili Peppers will compete for prestigious Video of the Year prize, along with Madonna, Christina Aguilera, and Panic! At The Disco. The Red Hot Chili Peppers have been nominated for the promo for 'Dani California' and Shakira for 'Hips Don't Lie'.
