Anne Hathaway didn't always want to become Jane until Emma Thompson convinced her otherwise.

In her new movie "Becoming Jane," Anne portrays celebrated British author Jane Austen.

Surprisingly, the actress almost turned down the role before meeting British actress Emma Thompson - who starred in the 1995 film adaptation of Austen's novel "Sense and Sensibility."

Anne admits she was too scared to tell her idol that she was going to snub the chance to play the acclaimed writer.

She said, "I was having doubts, but then I met Emma, who asked me what I was doing. I couldn't tell her I was not going to play Jane Austen. So I just did it."
