Emilio Estevez was once part of a group of Hollywood hell raisers called "The Brat Pack", an unofficial title for the young stars and starlets who spent more time in clubs than on camera.
Now, 20 years later, the former actor is working with and defending the unofficial ring leader of "The Spoiled Brat Pack," Lindsay Lohan.
This generation's wild child, Lohan, appears in Estevez's acclaimed ensemble drama "Bobby," about the assassination of Robert Kennedy. The new director, who recently became engaged, says that he had reservations about working with the star.
However, after meeting the tabloid favorite, the director says he knew she was perfect for the role.
He told Britain's The Sun newspaper, "Her agents kept pushing her for the film. I'd heard horrible stories, so I said, 'Is she interested in being thought of a serious actress? Because this schedule can't support anybody misbehaving.'"
Estevez continued, "They assured me she was. So I called ("Bobby" star) Elijah Wood and got them both out for lunch. I wanted another opinion, especially from the actor who would be in most of her scenes. It ended up as a love-fest. We laughed, we told stories, she understood the script and the role and was committed. She left, and Elijah and I looked at each other and said, 'She'd be fabulous.'"
While filming the yet-to-be-released "Georgia Rule" in 2006, Lohan received a threatening letter from the producers after she missed work due to excessive partying.
