If he could go back and change time, he would have had sex as a blossoming teenager on the cusp of raging hormones.

Elton John recently revealed he lost his virginity when he was 23 - and regrets it.

The openly homosexual musician insists 14 is an "exciting age" to have sex and wishes he had lost his virginity at that age rather than later in his life.

Elton told the Observer Music Monthly magazine, "I didn't have sex until I was 23 and that was with a man. I wish I was 14, 15, or 16 because that's such an exciting age to have sex. I was sexually very immature. I made up for lost time in a hurry."

The music icon also revealed he first knew he was gay at school, but went out with girls because he felt under pressure to do so.

The "Rocket Man" singer married female German recording engineer Renate Blauel in 1984 but the pair eventually divorced in 1988

Elton - who "married" long-term partner David Furnish in a same-sex civil ceremony last year - said, "I think I knew I had homosexual tendencies at school. But I went out with girls because one had to. I didn't experiment with sex for quite a long time."
