George Michael allegedly spends hours cruising the streets looking for gay lovers.
The singer's cousin, Andreas Georgiou, says the singer - whose life has come under scrutiny since he was found slumped at the wheel of his car last month - is hooked on the pastime, despite being with partner Kenny Goss for the last ten years.
He told Britain's Sunday Mirror newspaper the star - who was arrested for a lewd act in a public toilet in Los Angeles in 1998 - refuses to take a driver because he likes trawling London for sex partners by himself.
He revealed: "George cruises. That's what he does. That is a big part of his life. That's what the driving is all about - and that's why George goes out on his own without a driver. He has been cruising for years."
He added: "After the Los Angeles incident, George even told me, 'Andreas, that's what I do. I just fancied getting a w**k in the afternoon. I get off on it'."
Earlier this month a former friend warned the troubled singer - who received a police caution for possession of cannabis last month - is in danger of killing himself with drugs.
Musician Toby Bourke - who says he used to watch Michael chain-smoke cannabis joints - said: "I fear he's putting his life at risk. He needs to get professional help before it is too late."
