Dennis Quaid's newborn twins are in a critical condition after suffering an accidental drug overdose.
The babies, born on November 8 to a surrogate mother, were injected with almost 1,000 times the recommended dose of Heparin by a nurse at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
According to TMZ, the infants - Thomas Boone and Zoe Grace - began to "bleed out" the drug and are being treated with Protamine to reverse the effects of Heparin.
Reports claim that the newborns - the first addition to Quaid and wife Kimberly Buffington's family - are in a stable condition in the neonatal intensive care unit.
Dr. Michael L. Langberg of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center released a statement saying, "I want to extend my deepest apologies to the families who were affected by this situation. This was a preventable error, involving a failure to follow our standard policies and procedures, and there is no excuse for that to occur at Cedars-Sinai. Although it appears at this point that there was no harm to any patient, we take this situation very seriously."
Quaid, 53, also has a son, Jack, from his marriage to actress Meg Ryan.
