With past hosts of the Academy Awards used the time on stage to play off the star audience, Ellen DeGeneres' approach to the gig has been labeled as "safe" by some critics.
While the comedienne and talk-show host did not go as risque as previous hosts such as Jon Stewart, Chris Rock and Steve Martin, DeGeneres says the experience was more nerve-wracking than she initially anticipated.
Appearing on her daytime show following the Oscars, a teary DeGeneres explained her feelings to the audience.
She said, "I'm crying for many reasons. I'm tired, so I'm emotional... [but hosting the Oscars] represented so many things to me. It represented that people believed in me, they took a chance in me to hold something like that together, that people would want to see me."
The host, praised by many stars for her job on the night, continued, "It was harder than I thought and I was scared to death. I didn't know how I would do...You know, you have confidence at the same time as you have insecurities."
DeGeneres, who attended the Oscars with her partner, Portia De Rossi, concluded, "It was an incredible experience."
However, some Internet critics are hinting that fellow comedian Jerry Seinfeld should get the gig next year.
The former "Seinfeld" star presented the best documentary feature category and had the funniest introduction of the night.
The Toronto Sun newspaper's Bill Harris wrote, "There's no question about what to do: Let's draft Jerry Seinfeld."
The ceremony, which ran for almost four hours, had mixed reviews and ratings of 39.9 million.
