David Beckham fears he faces the same fate as Britain's late Princess Diana, and will be killed in a high-speed car chase with the paparazzi.
The soccer star is one of the world's most photographed people and is constantly hounded by photographers.
Since moving to Los Angeles earlier this month, with wife Victoria and their three sons, he has been the subject of more press attention.
He is now worried he will die in similar circumstances to Diana, who was killed in a 1997 Paris car crash when her vehicle smashed into a tunnel wall while by followed by a convoy of photographers.
He is quoted in Britain's the Star newspaper as saying: "It's definitely over the top here in LA."
"In London, if we'd go out to dinner, there would be four or five cars following us."
"The other night we had 47. No joke. I get nervous. They run red lights and you're just waiting for accidents to happen."
When Diana died her brother, Earl Spencer, blamed the press for his sister's death.
A clearly emotion Spencer said: "I always said the press would kill my sister, but I didn't know they'd have such a huge part in her death."
"Every tabloid editor who has bought photographs from these paparazzi agencies has blood on their hands today."
