Danny Bonaduce may have kicked a number of addictions but it wasn't enough to save his marriage of 16 years.
Although many were hopeful that Danny and Gretchen would stay together after the former child star got his act together and sobered up for good, his red-haired wife had other plans. Gretchen filed divorce papers at the Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday, citing the typical "irreconcilable differences."
Danny's representative, Ken Capurso, has hinted that she did it for the sake of their kids.
PEOPLE quotes him as saying, "Even though they still care about each other and their two children, Gretchen felt it wasn't a great atmosphere to raise the kids."
On Tuesday, Danny told radio show host Adam Carolla that he was "heartbroken at the prospect of getting a divorce."
Gretchen is requesting full custody of their 12-year-old daughter and six-year-old son. However, she is also seeking visitation rights for Danny, so he can continue to step up to the plate and be a role model for his kids.
The couple became a nationwide hit last year in VH1's reality show "Breaking Bonaduce," which exposed Danny's inner demons and struggles with drugs, alcohol and sex.
Hopefully he won't let the divorce stop him from focusing on building a better life for himself and his family, regardless of whether or not they live under the same roof anymore.
