Cynthia Nixon wants to marry her lover Christine Marinoni. The 'Sex and the City' star - who reprises her role as lawyer Miranda Hobbes in the upcoming big screen adaptation of the hit TV series - would definitely consider tying the knot.

She said: "If it becomes legal, I definitely would get married. It's something my girlfriend is interested in too. I think that to get married to her would be a little act of rebellion. It's like if you've never had the vote and then you get it you're going to run out there and vote."

The 42-year-old actress - who has two children, 11-year-old daughter Samantha and five-year-old son Charles, with ex-boyfriend Danny Mozes - also revealed she had never considered getting married before because she was "wary" of the institution.

She added in an interview with Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "I always avoided marriage in the past and was always very wary of it. I felt like it was potentially a trap."

"People sometimes want the party, the gifts and the public celebration of this big love - they're always excited about that rather than about the lifetime commitment. So I always steered clear of it."
