Sophie, Britain's Countess of Wessex, yesterday enjoyed her first public outing since the birth of her second child. The countess and her husband Prince Edward were greeted by a crowd of more than 1,000 people as they joined Queen Elizabeth at a church service in Sandringham, Norfolk, nearly two weeks after the birth of baby James.
Onlooker Mavis Hewson, who spoke to Sophie, said: "She told me the baby was very good and that his four-year-old sister Lady Louise loves him very much."
Sophie, 42, wore an off-white coat as she arrived at the service by car with the queen, who was wearing a pink coat and matching pink hat.
Another onlooker, Rosemary Wilson, said: "Sophie looked absolutely lovely and radiant. It's nice to see her out and about again after having the baby."
The queen was accompanied to yesterday's service - which featured a sermon by the Bishop of Norwich, Reverand Graham Jones - by her husband Prince Philip.
The pair traditionally spend Christmas and New Year at Sandringham.
