Could a move to L.A. be the end of the Posh And Becks brand?
David and Victoria Beckham, the leading celebrity couple in the U.K., are preparing to swim with bigger fish when they move their family and work commitments to L.A. in July when David begins playing football with the city's Galaxy team.
The couple have enjoyed tremendous success as a model celebrity couple while in England and Europe, launching signature scents and overcoming infidelity rumors. However, once they move to Hollywood, home to other beautiful, rich and famous people, their allure may not be as strong.
Britain's Daily Mail newspaper is already questioning whether their marriage, which has produced three sons, can stand the new climate.
In the past view months, former Spice Girl Victoria has been hopping from L.A. to the U.K., house hunting and tying up loose ends while her husband finishes his commitments in Madrid.
A friend of the couples tells the newspaper, "The truth is the Beckhams are leading pretty separate lives and David isn't pleased about it. He has a calendar in his bedroom with days circling how much time he and his wife have spent together and he considers it too scant."
But when the couple arrives in the City of Angels, they will have plenty more time to look miserable in front of photographers together as their work will be centered in the one place. For David, it is football. For Victoria, it is fashion. The star couple, who have both adopted a stern frown when appearing in public, will also have friends to share their lifestyle with - namely Tom and Katie and Jennifer and Marc.
The six stars have become close friends since the TomKat wedding in Italy. But their association with other star couples, something they have failed to do in their native England, could overshadow their own fame.
During Victoria's much publicized visits to L.A. in search of a lavish family home, including some of the biggest mansions in the area, she has reportedly faced problems because of the specifics she is after.
Even in Hollywood, the land of broken marriages, Posh is having trouble finding a home with two separate master bedrooms with bathrooms - something she reportedly wants.
The source continued, "Victoria is adamant that they have to have their own spaces because of their different schedules. They are like ships passing in the night much of the time and one is always complaining that the other disturbs them because of their different timetables."
Moving to Hollywood, home of movie stars and supermodels, could be worrying for Victoria for another reason. David is reportedly frequently surrounded by beautiful women, which could only intensify, and harm his marriage, when he relocates.
"Dynasty" star Joan Collins and her novelist sister, Jackie, have offered some advice for the star couple.
Joan reportedly said, "You can't leave men in this town on their own. Not more than a day."
Jackie, meanwhile, is warning Victoria to keep a close eye on her husband if he crosses over into films.
She said, "If David becomes a movie star, and people are saying he should, Victoria should know the dangers."
Couples like Brad and Angelina, Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams and Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman all met while filming together. Some were even in high profile relationships at the time.
But it isn't all bad for Victoria, David and their sons Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz. One thing they will be moving away from is Katie Price, otherwise known as British model Jordan.
While both living in England, Jordan and Victoria have had a war of words and the pregnant 'model' started up it again on her own trip to Hollywood.
Appearing on "Extra" with her husband, the co-coordinated Peter Andre, the couple attacked their more successful countrymen's looks.
Peter said, "I might as well say it, she is better looking than Victoria, but I'm not as good looking as David."
Jordan, using all the tact she has, responded, "It's not hard to be better looking than her, is it really?"
So maybe people in Hollywood will be a little more welcoming...
