Nicole Richie and Joel Madden have welcomed Santa early for some unfortunate children.
The parents-to-be spent their last childless Christmas at the Beyond Shelter in Los Angeles, handing out presents to children as part of their Richie-Madden Children's Foundation.
Eight months pregnant Nicole and "Good Charlotte" singer Joel gave away pairs of Stride-Rite shoes, Cloud B Cuddle Cub teddy bears and entertained children and their families with face-painting, balloons and hot dogs.
Nicole told PEOPLE, "We really wanted to give these kids a really wonderful and special Christmas. It's our favorite holiday."
Dad-in-waiting Joel said, "It's fun for us to be with a bunch of kids who are having a good time. They make you smile. Hopefully for today they're feeling special. We're just really happy to be a part of the community and celebrating with these kids who haven't been as fortunate as us."
The couple's own baby is due early in the New Year.
