'Sex and the City' star Chris Noth has become a father for the first time. Chris - who plays Sarah Jessica Parker's character Carrie's love interest, Mr. Big, in the hit TV series and upcoming film - and his long-term girlfriend Tara Wilson welcomed a baby boy into the world in Los Angeles on Friday.

The happy couple has named their new arrival, who weighed a healthy 7lbs 10oz, Orion Christopher Noth. A spokesman said: "I am happy to confirm that Chris Noth and Tara Wilson are the proud parents of a happy and healthy baby boy. Chris and Tara are thrilled and all are doing well."

The couple met five years ago when Tara started working in Chris' New York bar The Cutting Room. The pair now own a teashop in Canada, called Once Upon A Cup, and can soon be seen acting alongside each other in independent film 'Frame Of Mind'.

Chris, who starred in criminal drama 'Law and Order: Criminal Intent' from 2005 to 2007, can next be seen in 'Sex and the City: The Movie', due for release worldwide on May 30.
